ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leadership is ignoring and annoying the opposition parties under a well thought out plan of taking solo flight in its street protest plan with the aim to reap the benefit in case of any damage to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) government.
In the face of scathing criticism of PTI Chairman Imran Khan using the same derogatory language against the ruling PML-N leadership as well as the main opposition Pakistan People’s Party, almost all the opposition parties even its own coalition partners in Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa — Jamaat-i-Islami and Qaumi Watan Party - were keeping distance from the street agitation programme of PTI.
Political observers commenting on the position taken by PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that actually he (Imran) was eying at the future politics, particularly in Punjab, where they are next to ruling PML-N vis-a-vis vote banks keeping in view the results of the by-elections held in recent past.
The PTI leadership believed that if they are able to single-handedly manage to uproot the PML-N government they would automatically become number one especially when the government would be removed on charges of Panama Papers revelations. It was in this backdrop that PTI leadership is coming up with scathing criticism and at points using derogatory language against the PPP leadership solely with the aim to keep them at arm’s length and not to make it part of their agitation plan.
The decision of announcing march on Federal Capital at Riwind rally and later unilateral announcement of October 30 for sealing off Islamabad was made without taking into confidence any of the opposition parties which otherwise were part of the joint opposition earlier engaged in negotiations with the government for framing of mutually acceptable terms of reference for Panama leaks probe.
Some insiders in the Parliament informed that taking strong notice of the solo flight of Imran Khan, the hawks in the ranks of Pakistan People’s Party wanted the party leadership to come up with announcement of complete dissociation with PTI at all levels but the saner elements like Ch. Aitezaz Ahsan prevented the move and downplayed the otherwise unreasonable and derogatory comments of Imran Khan on the PPP leadership.
The PPP leadership further decided that the party would continue to exploit all available means to bring the ruling PML-N to the point of surrendering the Prime Minister and his family members to transparent inquiry into the Panama leaks probe as per the opposition parties devised mechanism.
The sources further said that Chiarman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari during his meeting with JUI-F Chief Moulana Fazlur Rehman had also conveyed the message to government to accept the PPP tabled bill on Panama leaks probe in Upper House of the Parliament otherwise the PPP leadership had the option of street agitation intact and in case of failure to get the matter resolved through constitutional and legal means the party would be forced to use this option.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari wanted to see the incumbent political dispensation function and was against the unconstitutional way of removing the democratically elected government but in this regard he would be requiring the ruling PML-N to accept the genuine legal and constitutional options the PPP had floated for resolving the Panama leaks saga.
The sources said that after having a word with ruling PML-N, the JUI-F chief would likely to have another meeting with Bilawal to have some amicable resolution to the issue, as opposition as well as ruling PML-N wanted to grill Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for their own interests.
