Interior ministry’s air wing to be under NACTA

ISLAMABAD - The government has decided to make the interior ministry’s Air Wing part of the proposed Rapid Response Force and place the wing under the operations of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting of the ministry officials and heads of its attached departments. The meeting decided to include the Air Wing in the Rapid Response Force (RRF), upgrade its capacity for night flying and place it under NACTA operations. The minister also ordered to revamp the National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC). He instructed that Air Wing should be attached with the proposed RRF so it could be used for the quick movement of the force in case of any terrorism incident or threat.
The air wing of the interior ministry has its own helicopters and airplanes to be used for the law and order purposes and is headed by a director general. Some of its helicopters are being used in Balochistan. However, the performance of the wing has been questioned from certain quarters in the past.
PM calls cabinet meeting today: Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has called the Federal Cabinet meeting today to discuss host of issues relating to the revamping of national economy.
Sources in the govt informed on Monday that a Malaysian aviation tycoon would give the Federal Cabinet on revival of national flag-career Pakistan International Airlines Corporation, which was at the verge of collapse and PML-N government was contemplating to privatise it. It would probably for the first time that some foreigner economic expert would be attending the Federal Cabinet meeting and briefing the members on certain issue.
The Prime Minister would also take his cabinet colleagues into confidence on the decisions taken in the All Parties Conference held here on Monday to devise counter-terror strategy.
The cabinet members could put in their valuable input in devising the strategy to go about holding negotiations with militants to achieve lasting peace and tranquillity in the country.
