IUB launches programme profs paint society canvas with peace

BAHAWALPUR -The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) in collaboration with Health and Gender Equality, has launched a project titled “Professors Paint Society’s Canvas with Peace: Inspiring the Future” to inculcate peace and interfaith harmony among the young generation.
The project aims at working with professors and course coordinators in a peace building process as future of a nation is shaped within four walls of a classroom.
Throwing light on teachers’ responsibilities in shaping a nation, IUB Vice Chancellor Dr Qaiser Mushtaq pointed out that the teachers play a pivotal role in promoting high moral values of peace, tolerance and harmony in society by imparting to students quality education and equipping them with social ethics. “The terrorism we are facing these days is not result of a particular incident but a global phenomenon,” he pointed out, adding that the menace cannot be eliminated only by the law-enforcement agencies as the entire nation is responsible to take part in the actions taken against the terrorism. He also appreciated the launch of the project, saying that the educational institutions are the right forum to initiate such programs to promote peace and interfaith harmony in the society.
The project focal person Dr Razia Mussarat said that eight orientation sessions with selected faculty members would be organised to find out ways as to how teachers can play an effective role in spreading peace through their contact with students. At conclusion of the project, an Azam-e-Aman conference will be organised at the university, she added.
