HAFIZABAD-A state minister has called upon the people to donate generously for Medibank Trust which “provides medicines to the poor across the country”.

Addressing a gathering of bureaucrats, traders, elected representatives and members of civil society, Minister of State for Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar said that no worship is greatest than serving the ailing humanity. She appreciated Javed Nisar Syed, the patron-in-chief of the Trust, for establishing Medibank Trust to provide free medical treatment for the visually impaired, mentally retarded, hearing impaired persons.

She said that the government was mobilising its resources to provide better healthcare for the citizens, and stressed a need for joint efforts to become partner of Medibank for liberating disadvantaged from the clutches of misery and free medical quality medicines.

Earlier, Javed Nisar Syed highlighted the successful functioning of Medibank in eight districts of the country. He added that it would start facilities in 15 districts during the current financial year. He further said that President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain has given his consent to become supreme patron of the Medibank and a Letter of Understanding (LOU) has been signed between the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination for cooperation. He regretted that 1,000 children were born daily while 94 of them die within five years mainly due to lack of provision of deworming medicine which is beyond the reach of the poor. Later, the state minister inaugurated a clinic in the DHQ Hospital which will provide free medicines.
