VEHARI - Traffic police are facing the shortage of staff and vehicles without which smooth flow of traffic could not be ensured, a police officer said.
DSP Traffic Riaz Gujjar added that the department was functioning with the same strength as it was many years ago. The department has only four vehicles, one vehicle is for DSP and three for the whole district.
He claimed that the traffic police were performing better despite lack of staff. “The police require six inspectors in the department but it has only one inspector, four sub inspectors instead of seven and we need twelve ASI and sixteen constables. Due to lack of resources we are unable to perform accordingly,” he added.
Rash driving and doing a wheelie are the main causes of deaths in accidents, he said. Six bike riders between 16 to 19 age die every day in accidents, he said.
