AU plans inter-varsity robotics contest

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is going to take part first time in Global Robotics Challenge (GRC) competition, being held in India from March 14 to 17 this year at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India.  Air University (AU) will organise robotics competition among universities of the country on February 6, 2013 to select team Pakistan for grand final. According to the event manager, Liaquat Ali Khan, Assistant Professor at Air University, this year, the AIR University has been selected as official organiser of the GRC for Pakistan. Air University is organizing Pakistan round of the competition in its Islamabad Campus on Feb 6, 2013. Teams from different universities having engineering and computer science programmes have been invited to participate and compete for the grand finale of GRC, he said.
Liaquat informed that so far ten universities have confirmed participation in the event while ten more institutions are being expected to confirm their participation before the final registration date of Jan 26.
The participants will compete in two categories International Autonomous Robotics Competition and International Robot Got Talent, he said.
, adding that the winners of GRC Pakistan will compete in the International finale of GRC scheduled from March 14 to 17 in Kanpur.
The festival ‘Techkriti-2013’ serves as a valuable opportunity for engineers around the globe to converge their skills and abilities on a single platform; it will be a great opportunity for Pakistan students, he said. Liaquat informed that the annual technical and entrepreneurship festival which has emerged as one of the best technical festivals around the globe is being organised by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, UAE, Egypt, UK, Japan and other countries will participate in the event.
He said Techkriti was launched in 1995 with the aim of developing interest and encouraging innovation in technology. In seventeen years of its existence, Techkriti has evolved and grown, fulfilling its purpose and becoming one of the most eagerly-awaited festivals in Asia. The word ‘Techkriti’ is composed of two words, ‘Tech’ in English which stands for technology and ‘Kriti’ in Sanskrit stands for creation. It may be mentioned that Robotics, has been one of the most interesting field of technical advancements.
