LAHORE - Muhammad Abid excelled in 0 to 14 handicap category, Shahbaz Shah in 15 to 17 handicap category and SM Shakeel in 18 handicap category of the Shahid Abbas Golf Tournament that was contested here at par-72 Royal Palm Golf and Country Club Golf Course yesterday.
Participation in this golf event was confined to members of Royal Palm Golf Club only, yet 110 golfers turned up to show their golfing prowess and gain illustriousness through capable golfing. Format of the contest was stableford where a competitor gathers three points for every birdie, two points for every par and one point for every bogie. And if the score on a hole is a miserable two over par and above, no points are obtained.
All through the 18 holes race for ascendancy over many accomplished adversaries, M Abid was in full command and playing faultless golf in handicap category 0-14 with 39 points while Hussain Hamid secured second with 36 points, Hasen Arshed finished third with 35 points and Nadeem Mukhtar fourth with 35 points.
In handicap category 15-17, Shahbaz Shah grabbed first with 33 points while Asadullah Khan earned second position with 33 points, Azhar Rauf third with 33 points and Azhar Iqbal fourth with 32 points. In handicap category 18, SM Shakeel emerged as triumphant with 39 points while Zulqarnain Chatta was second with 36 points, Sardar Aqil third with 34 points and Hasen Ijaz fourth with 34 points. The nearest to the pin was won by Tauqeer Rana and the longest drive (295 yards) was hit by Umer Dar.
At the conclusion of the event, the prizes were awarded to the performers by Adnan Gilani, CEO LNG, Aftab Butt, CEO Kot Addu Power and Naseer Akhter, Chairman Infotech, in the presence of Hafiz Yousaf and Khalid Chaudry and participating golfers at Royal Palm Golf Course Lawns. An energizing event patronized by highly accomplished club members.
