NDMA officials review preparations for floods

ISLAMABAD (APP) The officials of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) are reviewing the preparations to cope with the flood situation during monsoon season, visiting different cities across the country. An official of NDMA told APP, the officials of NDMA have visited different cities including Peshawer, Lahore and Multan and now are on visit to Karachi to check the preparations of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to cope with any flood situation. The officials who are visiting different cities belong to the NDMA department of Disaster Risk Reduction. The stakeholders and authorities at district level, have been strengthened to cope with challenging circumstances, especially disasters. District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), in each district, headed by District Coordination Officer are preparing their own contingency plan for the current monsoon. The official informed that NDMA has already finalized contingency plan for floods in any part of the country during the current monsoon season. The authority has finalized the plan, taking all the stakeholders on board including Pakistan Meteorological Department, Irrigation Department, Federal Flood Commission and Director Generals of Provincial Disaster Management Authority to minimize the risk of land and life losses.
