PESHAWAR - A top commander of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed during an encounter with police, while his other injured companion was arrested on Sunday in district Battagram, police said.
According to details, the Counter Terrorism Department of Battagram carried out an operation at Saath area, the TTP commander Hafiz Nisar along with his companion Sahibullah attacked Thakot Aman check-post last evening in which one policeman was killed and another sustained injuries.
Police followed the terrorists after the attack and during an encounter with police, the TTP commander Hafiz Nisar was killed and Sahibullah sustained injuries. The killed commander Hafiz Nisar was chief of TTP district Shangla and was wanted for a number of attacks on forces. In this connection, KP government had announced Rs 1 million as head money for the TTP militant.
Police recovered one hand-grenade, Kalashnikov, pistol, mobile phones and identity cards from the possession of both the terrorists.
According to DPO Shangla, Raja Saboor Khan, policemen carried out an operation in Saath area of Battagram when the terrorists opened fire at them. An exchange of fire took place during which Hafiz Nisar was killed while his accomplice was arrested in injured condition.
The injured militant was shifted to an unknown location for investigation.
