The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist across most parts of the country until Thursday, June 12.
According to the latest weather report, a high-pressure system that developed over Pakistan on June 7 has caused daytime temperatures to rise significantly—by 5 to 7°C above normal—in central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. These elevated temperatures are expected to continue until Thursday.
In upper and central Sindh, southern Punjab, and parts of Balochistan, daytime temperatures are likely to remain 4 to 6°C above normal.
Extreme heat is expected in several districts, with maximum temperatures potentially reaching:
- Sibi and Jacobabad: above 48°C
- Sargodha: up to 47°C
- Dadu, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Chakwal, Lahore: around 46°C
- Islamabad and Peshawar: up to 43°C
- Quetta and Gilgit: around 36°C
- Karachi: approximately 34°C
The Met Office has also warned of possible dust storms and gusty winds across the plains due to excessive surface heating.
Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses and limit outdoor activities during peak daytime hours.
