I wish to draw attention to the alarming rise in the prices of sacrificial animals in the lead-up to Eid. This sacred occasion, cherished by Muslims across the country, is becoming increasingly unaffordable for many due to the exorbitant costs of goats, cows, and camels.
The surge in prices appears to stem from unchecked inflation, high transport costs, and a lack of regulation in livestock markets. While traders are entitled to fair profits, the current rates are excluding middle- and low-income families from performing their religious duty.
I appeal to the authorities to intervene, ensure price controls, and prevent exploitation in these markets. Promoting fairness and empathy among both buyers and sellers will help preserve the true spirit of Eid: compassion, sharing, and sacrifice.
