Govt playing dirty game for self-interests: Nawaz

LAHORE– PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif has accused the federal government of playing a game to safeguard narrow political interests and called for immediate general elections in the country.“We are facing various problems at the internally front, but regrettably, various regional, ethnic and linguistic prejudices are being promoted instead of forging national unity and solidarity. This deplorable game is being played by the federal government because of short-term political and party interests,” Nawaz said.“The nation wants general elections as early as possible, so that it can get rid of the incompetent and dishonest rulers through the power of their vote. However, plans are being mulled to postpone general elections through various tactics,” the PML-N chief said in a statement issued in connection with the death anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said the thinking and ideology of Quaid-i-Azam was still a beacon of light for the nation in order to combat serious internal and external problems, which Pakistan was confronting today.Nawaz said contravening the decisions of the courts and ridiculing the judges had become a matter of routine by the federal government. “It has become impossible for a common man to earn two meals a day, while back-breaking inflation and unemployment has made life extremely difficult.” The PML-N president said national economy had been crippled, while the national sovereignty was being trampled upon on daily basis.“In order to come out of all these problems, we would have to adhere to the thinking, ideology and character of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.”Nawaz further said according to the vision of Quaid-e-Azam, there was complete protection of fundamental rights of all non-Muslim minorities in Pakistan’s Islamic, democratic and welfare society, where rights of minorities would be equal to all other Pakistani brethren, and they would be completely free to live their life, in accordance with their own believes and creed.“Pakistani minorities would have complete independence to visit their worship places, while protection of their life, property and honour would be equal to that of all Muslims, enabling them to play their vigorous role in national progress and prosperity.”Nawaz said, “We must rejuvenate our covenant on the occasion of death anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to further accelerate our efforts to transform Pakistan into a prosperous, self-respecting and sovereign country, in accordance with the dreams of Muslim League and millions of Muslims of sub-continent, which they envisioned under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam.”
