Federal Minister for Commerce Engr. Khurram Dastgir Khan on Monday said that Pakistan would continue to reap the benefits of GSP Plus, as it is complying with all the obligations necessary for the continuity of GSP Plus status.

The Minister informed the delegation that Pakistan is fulfilling all the legal requirements related to 27 human rights conventions of United Nations which it required under the GSP Plus status. Since the introduction of 18th Amendment in the Constitution, most of the subjects falling under the 27 conventions on human rights came under the purview of provincial governments. In 2014, Prime Minister established a TIC which is headed by the Special Assistant to the PM Ashtar Ausaf to sensitise the provincial governments to bring the domestic human right laws in line with the international human rights conventions. Several meetings of TIC have taken place in which the Federal Government has guided the governments of constituent units in upgrading their laws.

The delegation expressed its satisfaction at the 21pc increase in Pakistan's exports to EU in 2014 and hoped that the economic benefits of these trade incentives will multiply in the future.
