Kabul: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani vowed today to jointly fight against terrorism as terrorists have harmed both countries.
Speaking at a joint press conference after talks in Kabul, the two leaders agreed that terrorism has also hampered development in both countries.
Nawaz Sharif arrived in Kabul this morning on a day-long visit for talks on bilateral issues, focusing on security and economic matters.
“It’s a war imposed on Afghanistan and we will defend our country and its people,” the Presidential Palace quoted Ghani as saying in the meeting.
“Our discussion with Pakistan is about common threats. Our forces are fighting this war for the stability of the region,” he added.
A statement released by the Presidential Palace said that both sides discussed security issues and explored ways to enhance economic cooperation.
The statement further revealed that , “Pakistan promised to complete its development projects which have not yet been completed.”
Prime Minister Sharif also held official talks with the Afghan Chief Executive of Afghanistan, Dr Abdullah Abdullah.
The PM was accompanied by Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs; Gen. Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff; Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Secretary, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry.
This was Prime Minister’s second visit to Afghanistan and the first after the installation of National Unity Government in Kabul.
The Foreign Ministry said that building close cooperative relations with Afghanistan is a vital component of PM's vision of a peaceful neighbourhood.
The PM's visit aims at consolidating and further improving bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, a statement said.
