I wish to highlight the severe water shortage in Karachi, which continues to affect millions of residents, particularly in areas like Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Karachi, and Korangi.
The unreliable water supply forces citizens to depend on costly private tankers, many of which distribute unfiltered and unsafe water. Mismanagement, inequitable distribution, and reported water theft have worsened the crisis.
The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation and local authorities must ensure clean water access for all citizens, without discrimination. Investment in infrastructure, strict action against illegal hydrants, and transparent governance are urgently needed. Access to clean water is a basic human right, not a privilege. I hope this letter prompts immediate and meaningful action.
KHADIJA IFTIKHAR,
Karachi.
