The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Tuesday that it is not possible to hold local bodies elections in Punjab on December 7 due to serious issues.
While stating the reasons, the ECP sources told that the Punjab government has remained unsuccessful in forming new rules for the local bodies polls, and on the other hand, it is impossible to print the ballot papers in time, local news channel reported.
The Punjab government had earlier issued an ordinance to hold local bodies poll on parties’ basis, followed by three amendments in the ordinance.
Resultantly, the rules laid for the polls and the nomination papers issued to the candidates stand contrary to the code in the current situation.
The sources told that in order to hold the LB polls on parties’ basis, the provincial government would either need to constitute new rules or introduce more amendments in the previous ones.
