ISLAMABAD - The new British High Commissioner (HC) to Pakistan, Thomas Drew CMG, has stressed further improving existing trade relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
In a meeting with members of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCI) here at his residence on Tuesday, he discussed ways to improve the existing trade links, said a statement issued by the British High Commission.
The delegation, headed by ICCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh, also included other important businessmen of Islamabad.
Speaking after the meeting, the British HC said further strengthening trade ties between the UK and Pakistan was one of his top priorities.
“Despite my short time in Pakistan, I have already witnessed British investment in a variety of sectors,” he added.
The envoy said the business relationship between the UK and Pakistan was important for the prosperity of both the countries.
“I want it to continue to grow. There are already a large number of British companies operating in Pakistan today, with many more working here through Pakistani agents and distributors,” he said, adding, “Part of my role is to stimulate more business in both directions. The newly launched British Business Centre will be a great asset in doing so.”
The HC observed that these were exciting times for Pakistan and for “our trade relationship”.
“Increased levels of security, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and growing UK-Pakistan business links are all laying the foundations for a transformation in Pakistan’s business sector. This will be the cornerstone for economic growth across the country,” he hoped.
