KARACHI - The speakers at the meeting of Shura Hamdard Karachi chapter have stressed that we should not depend on foreign loans and instead explore indigenous resources for the economic progress of the country. A statement issued here on Friday said that the theme of the moot was Is foreign loans and aid a guarantee for the economic stability. It was presided over by Haziqul Khairi, former chief justice of the Federal Shariat Court. Ms. Sadia Rashid, President of the Hamdard Foundation was also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shahid Hasan Siddiqui, an economist, maintained that no nation has made sustainable progress only through foreign aid and loans. Justice (Retd) Haziqul Khairi, was of the opinion that injustice was the root cause of all of our ills which prevail in our society. He lamented that a man who was getting a salary of Rs 20,000 per month was in tax net, but many of those with much more income were out of the tax net. A former Ambassador, Mahdi Masud, emphasised the need of establishment of social justice, adoption of austerity and tolerance besides curbing of corruption and Col. (Retd) Mukhtar Ahmed Butt, Qudsia Akbar, Dr. Rizwana Ansari, Dr. Amjad Ali Jaffery, Commodore (Retd) Sadeed Anwar Malik, M Ahmed Sabzwari, Admiral (Retd) M.I. Arshad, Dr. Mirza Arshad Ali Beg, Anwar Aziz Jakartawalla, Shujaat Ali Qarni and Khan Mohammed Hussain Khan also spoke on the occasion.
