Teachers’ paucity counted as hurdle in education promotion

BAHAWALNAGAR - There is an acute shortage of teaching staff at schools as in majority of the primary schools only two teachers are running six classes almost across the province.
This was the crux of a seminar held here to highlight the importance of “informal education”. The seminar titled “Prosperous Punjab with Standardized Informal Education”. Speaking on the occasion, renowned educationalist Riaz Zaheer underlined the dismal state of primary education across the province. He questioned that under the prevailing acute shortage of teaching staff how could the dream of quality education be materialised? If we want to raise literacy through quality education first of all the shortage of teaching staff must be overcome,” he emphasised. He pointed out that most of the primary schools in the rural areas were running with only one teacher who had to teach to six classes. Can a single teacher deliver quality education to six classes simultaneously? In the second session of the seminar, educationist and civil society representatives highlighted the importance of quality education. Earlier, a literacy walk was also organised which was participated by a large number of educationists, teachers and students.
The participants were carrying placards inscribed with “Education key to freedom” and “Education gives us Confidence”. The walk was started from DCO Office Bahawalnagar and culminated at Jinnah Hall Bahawalnagar.
