“Almost any sect, cult, or religion will legislate its creed into law if it acquires the political power to do so.”

–Robert A. Heinlein

While this sect has been active since the 1950s, the Branch Davidians became best known for their standoff against the authorities in Waco, Texas. Davic Koresh was the leader of that time and he believed that he was the Messiah and declared all women, married and underage alike, to be his spiritual wives. The group further believed that the apocalypse was near and they had locked themselves in a compound fearing its arrival. Agents from the Department of Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco raided their compound on the suspicion that Koresh was stockpiling weapons and this shootout soon turned into a proper standoff between the two sides. It lasted for 51 days and ended when tanks were called in and the compound was filled with tear gas and then set on fire. In total, 80 people died due to this ordeal.
