I write with deep concern over the resurgence of poliomyelitis—a preventable yet highly infectious disease that affects mostly young children and can cause irreversible paralysis. This resurgence, particularly in areas lacking healthcare access, threatens decades of global progress. The reasons range from vaccine hesitancy and misinformation to logistical failures and fragile healthcare infrastructure. But the need for unified and urgent action is beyond dispute.
We cannot afford to let complacency reverse hard-won victories. Let us rise with renewed resolve and protect future generations by ensuring effective immunisation and public awareness.
