LAHORE - Lahore Garrison Golf Team held fast to their top position at the end of second round in the ongoing 10th Royal Palm Golf Team Championship here at the challenging par 72 Royal Palm golf course.
As for their nearest competitor, Gymkhana Greens continued to occupy the second position. Position wise, the situation is same as it was on the first day, however, score wise, Gymkhana Greens have fallen far behind the leaders as on the first day, they were lagging behind by one stroke but at the close of the second round they are seven strokes in arrears.
The second day was a windy day and conditions at the course multiplied in terms of difficulty in countering the golf course requirements and even the very talented ones found the going tough.
Garrison Team is placed at an aggregate score of 236, followed by Gymkhana Greens at 243, Royal Palm at 473, Garden City at 475, Gymkhana Blues at 477, PAF Islamabad at 480, Karachi Golf Club at 485, DHA Raya at 494 and Abbottabad at 503. Other teams were weeded out.
The Challenge Shield competition concluded after 36 holes and brought winning glory for M Ashfaq of Abbottabad. Over the two-round competition, Ashfaq scored aggregate of net 140 while Zubair Hussain of PAF ended up as the runner-up with a net aggregate score of 142.
In the race for gross honors, Ghazanfar Mehmood was on top with an aggregate of 143 while M Saqib was second at gross 149. Ahmed Baig was at 151 and Salman Jehangir at 153.
The ladies will enter the contest today (Sunday) and compete over 18 holes. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah will grace the final as chief guest.
