English medium schools

A number of our so-called English medium schools claim to impart education in English. They are easily able to attract the attention of the parents who send their children to these schools despite heavy fee structure. The bitter truth is that these schools do not adopt English as a medium of instruction. For instance they do not have teachers who teach English. What these schools actually do is to only prescribe books in English language and force the students to merely cram them. The students in turn are deprived of the opportunity to develop their reading, listening and writing skills. It is high time the government took action against these so-called English medium schools. Those institutions who are fleecing the public must be banned. AMNA MUNAWAR, Lahore, September 10.
