In a significant step to promote girls' education, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a free transport facility for female students in the province’s remote districts, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to details shared by the KP Education Department, the initiative aims to address the issue of long travel distances that often force young girls to drop out of school. The Gandapur-led government will provide transport services to ensure female students can safely and regularly attend educational institutions.

The scheme will be implemented in underdeveloped and hard-to-reach districts including Kohistan, Torghar, Hangu, and Lakki Marwat. It will also extend to Dera Ismail Khan, Charsadda, Kohat, and Bannu, allowing more girls across KP to pursue their studies without transportation challenges.

All district education officers have been officially notified to begin implementing the scheme.

The move comes as part of broader efforts across provinces to improve access to education. In a related development, the Punjab government recently approved a proposal for a special student travel card, and a free travel facility for differently-abled individuals and senior citizens using the mass transit system. The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is also exploring a plan to launch a tram service to enhance public transport infrastructure.
