Minister vows foolproof security for Chinese

KARACHI Sindh Sports Minister Dr M Ali Shah who is also the chairman of the Pakistan/China hockey test series has hoped that the visit of the Chinese hockey team will encourage other teams to visit Pakistan in future. Briefing the media after presiding over a meeting of the committee here on Tuesday afternoon at the Hockey Club of Pakistan where two tests of the Chinese team would be played on December 21 and 22, Dr. Shah said foolproof security arrangements would be made for the visit. The representatives of law enforcement agencies, government and CDGK attended the meeting in which details of security arrangements were discussed and finalized. He said the visit was of a great importance to Pakistan and its sports which had suffered after the Sri Lankan team was attacked in Lahore two years ago. That assault on the visting team resulted in the boycott of Pakistan by foreign teams. If seen in that background the Chinese visit would be important and it would give signals to other teams to assess the security situation in the country. He hoped that the visit would send positive signals to cricket teams of Bangladesh and Zimbabwe who had shown interest to visit Pakistan in near future. He said the two tests would be played in day light .The organizers were interested in holding the matches in floodlights but as the light towers of the HCP were not working so it was decided that the matches would push off at 2 in the afternoon. The entry to the matches would be free and the public would be requested to use gate number two opposite Jinnah Hospital for entry to the stadium. He said work to refurbish the HCP was in progress and would be made presentable before the matches. The Chinese tam will arrive in Karachi on December 19 and will hold a training session on December 20.A dinner reception would be hosted in honour of the visiting team in the hotel where the Chinese team would be lodged, he added.
