Rain, snowfall shrink temperature to freeze



ISLAMABAD  - Rain coupled with thunderstorm and light snowfall over hills brought the mercury to the freezing point. The intermittent spells of rain, which started Wednesday night, will continue for next two days, Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) predicted on Thursday.According to the PMD, the rain spell is expected to continue across the country and moderate rain with snowfall over hills is likely in Balochistan, Gilgit, Kashmir, Murree and Galiyat in 24 hours. Various parts of the country, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar had mild to heavy showers late on Wednesday and Thursday. The first downpour of the season turned the weather pleasant in Karachi but also paralysed the traffic and power supply network. Incessant rain submerged low lying areas in North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, FB Area, Gulistan-e-Johar and the old city. Hospitals received several injured in rain-related incidents, including motorcyclists.Several cases of injury by slipping from motorcycle have been reported in hospitals of Karachi. Modest rain also recorded in other cities of Sindh including Jacobabad and Hyderabad.
