LAHORE - Rescue workers on Saturday managed to pull out the body of an alleged robber, who jumped into a drain in Gulshan-e-Ravi area two days ago to avoid capture.
The police have removed the body to the morgue for autopsy and are investigating. Police investigators say the identification of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. Police sources said that an alleged robber was fleeing after snatching mobile phone and purse from a motorcyclist when the local residents managed to capture him. As the crowd started thrashing the bandit, he tried to flee and jumped into the drain to avoid torture. Police and rescue workers reached the spot and launched the search and rescue operation but they failed to trace the bandit.
Early on Saturday, the rescuers again launched the search operation and managed to pull out the body from the drain. His body was later handed over to the police. Further investigation was underway.
FOUND DEAD: Two devotees were found dead under mysterious circumstances from the Data Darbar area on Saturday. The police have moved the bodies, yet to be identified, to the morgue and are investigating. Police investigators say they believe both the men aged 30 and 35 had come to the shrine to attend the annual Urs of Ali Hajveri.
Police sources said that unidentified swindlers poisoned both the men separately and fled away after collecting their belongings including mobile phone and cash.
