ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission has announced to hold by-elections in five National Assembly and a Punjab Assembly constituencies next month on February 20. The by-polls scheduled was released on Friday.
A press release in this regard says, the EC has called upon the electors of NA-9 Mardan I, NA-140 Kasur III, NA-148 Multan I, NA-149 Multan II, NA-195 Rahim Yar Khan IV and PP-44 Mianwali II to elect a member to fill in the seats from the said constituencies, which became vacant due to resignations tendered by MNAs.
The by-polls schedule for five NA seats is as follows: Public notices to be issued by the returning officers in every NA constituency: 16-01-2012, dates for filing of nomination papers with the returning officers by the candidates: 19-01-2012 and 20-01-2012, dates for scrutiny of nomination papers by the returning officers: 23-01-2012 and 24-01-2012, last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the returning officers rejecting/accepting the nomination papers: 26-01-2012, last date for deciding appeals by the tribunal: 01-02-2012, last date for withdrawal of candidature: 02-02-2012, publication of revised list of candidates: 03-02-2012 and polling day on 20-02-2012.
The schedule for PA seat PP-44 Mianwali II that fell vacant due to the death Amir Hayat Khan Rokhari is as follows: Public notice to be issued by the returning officer: 17-01-2012, dates for filing of nomination papers with the returning officer by the candidates: 19-01-2012 and 20-01-2012, dates for scrutiny of nomination papers by the returning officer: 23-01-2012 and 24-01-2012, last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the returning officer rejecting/accepting the nomination papers: 26-01-2012, last date for deciding appeals by the tribunal: 01-02-2012, last date for withdrawal of candidature: 02-02-2012, publication of revised list of candidates: 03-02-2012 and polling day: 20-02-2012. The by-polls in every constituency would be conducted under the supervision of a deputy election commissioner and assistant election commissioner who would perform duties as district returning officer and returning officer respectively. Tehsildars, naib tehsildars and district education officers would also monitor the polls as assistant returning officers.
