If it had been possible to build the Tower of Babel without climbing it, it would have been permitted.
-Franz Kafka
The Tower of Babel is most commonly known through biblical literature. According to the myth, the structure was set to be built in Babylonia and represents the existence of diverse human languages. The Genesis states that the Babylonians wanted to build a reputation for themselves and the only way that they could do so was through creating a well-planned city around a mighty tower that would be as high as the heavens. According to the legend, God decided to disrupt the construction of the tower by confusing the language of the workers so that they could not understand each other. As a result, the tower was left half-constructed, the city was never completed and the people were dispersed across the globe, each group sticking together in accordance to the language that was spoken mutually.
