Govt asked to take notice of HR abuses in IHK

ISLAMABAD - Senior Vice Chairman of Kashmir Freedom Front, an All Parties Hurryiat Conference constituent, Saiyyed Abdullah Gilani condemning the arrest of Syed Abdur Rehman Geelani on sedition charges by Indian Government has demanded of the international human rights bodies to take up with New Delhi the massive human rights abuses against Muslims.
Talking to The Nation here on Sunday, Saiyyed Abdullah Gilani said that it was not for the first time that SAR Geelani was subjected to state oppression as he was earlier implicated in the Indian Parliament attack case but was freed by the superior courts.
He said that the fault with Geelani was that he organized a meeting at Press Club of India to mark the third anniversary of the hanging of Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was awarded capital punishment for attacking Indian Parliament in 2001.
On 9 February 2016, students of Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi organized Cultural programme and on 10 February a public meeting was held at the Press Club of India to commemorate the third anniversary of the hanging of Mohammad Afzal Guru.
Saiyyed Abdullah Gilani also demanded of the Government of Pakistan to take notice of the growing human rights violations in India, mainly targeting the Indian Muslims, and would make immediate cession of all these rights violation, part of the ties normalization agenda with India.
He said that it was the basic right of SAR Geelani to hold public rally and mark the anniversary of the hanging of Mohammad Afzal Guru, which was also considered and dubbed as judicial murder by most of the human rights organizations in India.
He regretted that the Indian academia and intelligentsia were raising voice for the release of SAR Geelani while the authorities in Pakistan were keeping complete silence.
