Government on defiance path

ISLAMABAD While invoking a serious question how long the government would continue its defiance and tricky game with the apex court, the government has issued a notification regarding approval of the resignation of Secretary Law Aqil Mirza, who was ordered by a five-judge larger bench of the Supreme Court to appear before it today (Friday). Commenting on the situation, legal minds are predicting that defying the apex court orders such kind of hasty move adopted by the government could lead the system to brink of collapse. One of the members of the bench said that the court needed to ask Aqil Mirza some important queries; accordingly, he was directed to appear before the court today (Friday). But after observing Thursday hearing of the apex court, elements with vested interests in the government preferred to issue notification of Law Secretary Aqil Mirza as per their agenda by engaging the apex court in non-issues and to further delay matters. Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk asked Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq if Aqil Mirzas resignation has been accepted. The AG replied in the negative. Upon this the court observed that he should have appeared in the court if his resignation was not accepted or if he is taking rest at home in Lahore. But just after three hours, thus cheating the apex court the government issued notification approving the resignation of Secretary Law Aqil Mirza.
