CM Punjab distributes laptops, scholarships to over 10,000 students in Faisalabad

The second ceremony of Chief Minister Punjab's Laptop and Honahar (Meritorious) Scholarship Program Phase II is being held today at Government College University Faisalabad, where CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif will personally distribute modern laptops to deserving students.

Under the program, 5,928 students from Faisalabad Division will receive Core i7, 13th generation laptops equipped with original Windows, as part of the government’s push to empower youth through digital tools. In addition, 4,075 students from the region will be awarded merit scholarships under Phase II, amounting to a total disbursement of Rs. 10 million.

Breaking down the allocation:

4,224 students from public universities in Faisalabad Division will receive laptops.
318 students from medical colleges in the division will also benefit from the laptop program.
1,385 students from government colleges will be provided laptops.
2,462 university students will receive scholarships worth Rs. 6.7 million.
82 medical students will be awarded Rs. 400,000 in total scholarships.
1,531 students from the college sector will receive Rs. 2.9 million in scholarships.
In her remarks, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed the government’s commitment to educational equity:
"No student in Punjab will be deprived of higher education due to financial constraints — this is our promise." She emphasized that by providing laptops, the government is giving students “wings to soar in the world of technology.”

Under her directives, scholarships are being awarded to students from the third to eighth semester, and the merit scholarship amount has been increased from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000.

The scholarship initiative is inclusive, extending support to students from Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well.

So far, the Honahar Scholarship Program has received over 153,572 applications, with 130,006 already verified. It targets BS and medical students from public institutions. Over the next eight years, the program is expected to disburse Rs. 90 billion in total scholarships.

The first ceremony under Phase II was held at UET Lahore, where 13,886 students received laptops and 3,121 students were awarded scholarships.

The initiative reflects the Punjab government's long-term vision of empowering students through technology and financial support, fostering a generation ready to lead in innovation and knowledge.
