Commissioner Karachi directs modernization of Malir and Lyari Expressways

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired two important meetings at the Commissioner’s Office, focusing on key city development and infrastructure projects.

The first meeting centered on Pakistan Steel Mills and was attended by Deputy Commissioner Malir Saleemullah Odho, Director of Pakistan Steel Chaudhry Tanveer Ahmed, labor leader Shamshad Ahmed Qureshi, as well as senior representatives from KE (K-Electric), KWSB (Karachi Water and Sewerage Board), SSGC (Sui Southern Gas Company), and other stakeholders. The extensive four-hour session addressed various longstanding issues and concluded with crucial decisions regarding electricity bills and housing allowances.

The second meeting was dedicated to the beautification of the Malir and Lyari Expressways. It was attended by KITE CEO Zahid Saeed, Assistant Commissioner G-Hazim Bhangwar, Najamuddin Sehto, Secretary of the Wildlife and Forest Department, Sindh, Javed Ahmed Mehr, Zeeshan Ali Bhambhro, Zeeshan Ali Gopang, and others.

Commissioner Naqvi instructed officials to plant fragrant and fruit-bearing trees along both highways and to upgrade them to international beautification standards. He directed the Forest Department to initiate tree plantation from Qayyumabad to the Toll Plaza on Malir Expressway and urged a complete survey and budgeting process for both expressways.

He also assigned DC Rangi Masood Ahmed Bhutto the task of coordinating with relevant departments to prioritize this project. Commissioner Naqvi announced he would visit both highways on Saturday, May 17, to review the progress.

In a related development, Commissioner Karachi met with renowned industrialist and KITE CEO Zahid Saeed, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Sajjad Ahmed Abro, to discuss strategies for enhancing the visual appeal of Malir Highway. Zahid Saeed assured full cooperation from KITE and its stakeholders in the beautification initiative.

Separately, Commissioner Naqvi also held a meeting regarding Abdullah Haroon Road with TMC Saddar (KMC) official Noor Hassan Jokhio, AC Civil Lines Junaid Alam Khan, and AC G-Hazim Bhangwar. He reviewed the current status and performance of the area and directed officials to transform Abdullah Haroon Road into a model, aesthetically pleasing thoroughfare.
