ISLAMABAD - Pakistan yesterday offered cooperation to Ukraine for undertaking a joint venture in tank manufacturing in HIT Taxila and ships at Karachi Shipyard.
Defence Production Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain who is currently visiting Ukraine made this offer during his meetings with secretary general, National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov, Deputy Defence Minister Oleg Pavlovsky and director general, UkrObornProm and Ukrspecexport, Roman Romanov. Rana Tanveer Hussain is heading a delegation of the Ministry of Defence Production, which is on a four-day visit to Kiev, Ukraiine, to attend Arms and Security Expo, 2016, on the invitation of Defence Minister Poltorak Stepan. Heavy Industries Taxila Chairman Lt-Gen Syed Wajid Hussain is also one of the delegation members. The delegation was received by Pakistan Ambassador to Ukraine Maj-Gen (r) Athar Abbas.
The delegation attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition and visited stalls of exhibitors. The minister also held meetings with Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council Secretary General Oleksandr Turchynov, Deputy Defence Minister Oleg Pavlovsky and Roman Romanov, director general, UkrObornProm and Ukrspecexport, a state-owned organisation of Ukraine, and discussed with them new avenues to enhance bilateral relations, especially in the field of defence production for joint venture with HIT Taxila and Karachi Shipyard.
The minister asserted there were possibilities to benefit from each other’s expertise. He also offered collaboration in the field of training facilities against terrorism, the joint venture in tank manufacturing in HIT Taxila and ships at Karachi Shipyard. The minister extended invitation to Ukrainian companies to participate in IDEAS to be held in Karachi in November this year. He thanked the Ukrainian minister for defence for inviting him and his delegation to his country.
