ISLAMABAD - As Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the largest winner in the September 12 Cantonment Board elections, its senior leadership claimed on Monday that the ruling party was now the only national party across the country that represented all federating units.

The ruling party also said that the results show that Prime Minister Imran Khan was the only national leader.

According to the unofficial results of the local bodies elections in the Cantonment Boards, the ruling PTI is leading the poll followed by opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and independent candidates respectively.

Senior PTI leader and Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar in a statement said that Cantonment Boards elections have once again showed that PTI has not only emerged as “the largest party but also the only national party.”

“PTI won either highest or second highest seats in every province,” he said.

He added that PML-N has won no seat in Balochistan, and it stood at number 5th in Sindh showing that the party has no representation in both the provinces. He also said that PPP has won not a single seat in Punjab and Balochistan and has stood at third position in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry also took to the Twitter to celebrate his party’s victory in the Cantonment Board elections and said that opposition has faced worst defeat in the poll and stood nowhere following this contest. He said that the contest in the elections was actually between PTI candidates and those independents who were denied tickets by the party.

According to the unofficial results, PTI has wiped out the PML-N in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Similarly, PML-N has merged as the largest party in Punjab followed by PTI.
