53 police personnel suspended as AIGP begins accountability within dept

MULTAN    -    Multan CPO Khurram Shahzad Haidar put 53 police officials under suspension on Tuesday, a day after Additional Inspector General Police (AIGP) South Punjab Dr Ehsan Sadiq sought a record of those police officials for having a bad reputation and having links with criminal elements to initiate a process of accountability within the police department.

In a statement, AIGP south Punjab spokesman said that the process of action against police officials with tainted record had been initiated, adding that the CPO Multan had suspended 53 officials on charges of corruption, misconduct, links with drug peddlers, addiction of alcohol, and links with brothels.

The suspended officials included a sub-inspector, six assistant sub inspectors (ASIs), eight head constables, 34 constables, and four Dolphin squad officials. They all have been told to report to the police lines. The AIGP south Punjab initiated the process to purge police department of corrupt elements.

RPO FOR ENSURING COMMUNITY PATROLLING

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dr Moeen Masood has directed for ensuring community patrolling in Faisalabad region. He directed the CPO Faisalabad and DPOs of Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Chiniot to ensure community patrolling in their respective districts by taking personal interest to save the people from thieves and robbers.

He said that community patrolling was an effective tool to control animals’ theft in rural areas. This system also discouraged drug peddlers, land grabbers, exhibiting illegal weapons in addition to reporting about proclaimed offenders.

Community policing also worked for the police department as an intelligence network, he said. The RPO directed the Station House Officers (SHOs) and DPOs to consult with town SPs, numberdars of villages/members of mohallas and selecting guards for patrolling on rotation basis from every house. He also directed for activating the ‘Chowkidar’ system in urban areas and installation of the e-gate entry system in collaboration with security companies that have good reputation.

BODY FOUND

Rescue-1122 recovered an unknown body from a canal, here on Tuesday. According to Rescue-1122, local people informed the rescue team about the presence of a body in a canal near Khangrah. Rescue-1122 teams rushed to the site and recovered the body. The body was found entangled with a tree in the canal. The unknown body was shifted to hospital. Local police are investigating the incident.

MAN KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENT

A man was killed while another suffered minor injuries in a head-on collision between a bus and a van near Tandlianwala on Tuesday. Rescue 1122 said that van rider M Amin died and Arbaz Mahmood sustained injuries in the accident occurred near Kicker stop on Tandlianwala-Satiana road. The dead body was shifted to Sadar police Tandlianwala while the injured was discharged after first-aid.
