Peshawar    -    Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday issued notices to various authorities to submit a reply in court by September 22 in a writ petition regarding reported nepotism in recent promotions of police officers in the province.

A two-member bench of Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Abdul Shakoor issued notices to KP IGP, DIG, and the secretary home.

Lawyers of the police officers, who were reportedly ignored in the promotions, told the court that nepotism was committed in the board meeting held on August 1 for promotions of police officers.

They said the names of five SPs, who were also supposed to be promoted to SSP rank, were removed from the list of the promotions, on the ground that those five officers had been inducted into the force out of the KP province.

The lawyers further said there was a court judgment that the officers of other departments serving in the police force should not be given promotions till they re-join their departments, and hence this judge does not apply to the petitioners as they are already the employees of police department even if inducted in Sindh, not from other departments.
