MULTAN - Regional Police Officer (RPO) Javed Akbar Riaz Thursday said police was extending every possible cooperation to Pakistan customs to prevent smuggling.

He expressed these views during a meeting with customs officials including collector customs Multan Imran Ahmad Chaudhary, Additional collector Shafiq-ur-Rehman and others who called at his office here.  He said the illegal import of foreign goods harm national economy and smuggled goods also become cause of hurdles in promotion of country’s industry.

He said customs officials will always have the support of the police for any kind of action in that regard. Collector Customs Multan Imran Ahmad Chaudhary said with the help of police better results were emerging in the department.

DC for crackdown against illegal commercial buildings in Multan

Deputy Commissioner Amir Karim Khan has ordered crackdown against illegal and without map commercial buildings in the city. He also directed to seal plazas, petrol pumps and housing colonies constructed without NOC. DC expressed these views while presiding over district design and development committee here on Thursday.

The concerned officers were directed to conduct survey of without map buildings and bylaws violations as the disorganized and illegal buildings have damaged the infrastructure of the city. Amir Karim said that the approval of business activities in commercial areas would be given as per master plan. He said that NOC would not be issued to any building or petrol pump without ensuring parking and bylaws.

He directed municipal corporation and district council to launch crackdown against illegal commercial buildings. Giving ultimatum, DC said that those involved in constructing commercial buildings without government approval would be dealt with iron hands.

Need of plantation stressed to tackle harsh weather conditions

Commissioner Multan Division Dr Irshad Ahmad on Thursday said that everyone should contribute in plantation for reduction of severity of harsh weather conditions.  While paying visit to Multan Public School, he informed that 1500 saplings have been planted in the school during spring campaign with the help of forest department.

He said that these plants would be taken care of under a mechanism devised by the school. Additional Commissioner, Sarfraz Ahmad, Divisional Forest Officer, Tariq Mahmood and Principal, Uzma Khan were present.
