MIRPUR (AJK) - A woman was martyred and three other persons belonging to the same family were injured in unprovoked Indian firing on village Kairni Madhar along the Line of Control in Naizapir sector, Haveli district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday.
“Munir Jaan, 40, wife of Muhmammad Azam, a resident of Kairni Madhar village was killed while his husband Azam and two daughters sustained serious injuries in unprovoked firing by Indian troops from across the LoC in Naizapira sector, a Haveili police officer told this correspondent on telephone Friday evening. The injured were immediately rushed to a hospital in an adjoining village Taachan, the police officer said.
India opened fire Friday at about 8am without any provocation, targeting the civilian population. The Indian firing was in progress until last reports. The people of the firing-hit villages close to this side of the LoC in Haveli were confined to their houses the whole day due to the Indian firing. However, the morale of the local population was high and there was no report of shifting of the people to some safer place.
The repeated incidents of unprovoked firing by the Indian troops along the Line of Control in the disputed Jammu & Kashmir and the Working Boundary in Sialkot as well as the recent intrusion of an Indian spy drone into Pakistani territory are escalating tension in the region.
Last month, a team of United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) visited the villages affected by Indian shelling on Working Boundary of Jammu-Sialkot sector. They visited Salehpur, Chaprar and Malane in Chaprar Sector in Sialkot, met wounded civilians and witnessed Indian atrocities committed against the local population.
