Lawyers protect people’s rights and enforce the law. But killings of lawyers are increasing — an attack not only on individuals but on the justice system itself.
Lawyers often handle cases involving powerful figures, criminal gangs, or major institutions. They expose corruption, defend human rights, and speak the truth — actions some cannot tolerate, leading to threats or murder. Such incidents aim to intimidate others from taking similar cases, leaving the poor and weak without advocates. When lawyers are unsafe, public trust in law and government collapses. The government must protect lawyers, ensure timely investigations, and punish perpetrators. Only if lawyers can work fearlessly will justice prevail. Without them, the justice system becomes weak.
