Security risk halts rescue operations

KARACHI - The governmental and non- governmental rescue organisations having or claiming the responsibility for working in volatile situations stopped working in the restive city causing increased number of losses. Ethnic and political violence erupted in various parts of the metropolitan city including Orangi Town, Nazimabad, Liaqatabad, Pak Colony, Malir, Shah Fasial Colony, Gulistan-e-Jauher, North Karachi, Sarjani Town, M A Jinnah Road, Rancho Line, Punjab Chowrangi, Akhter Colony, Korangi and Landhi where the violence was on its peak, while governmental and non-governmental organisations closed their operations because of security risk. The services of welfare organisations and fire brigade department were suspended when the law and order situation in the city was getting immense and people and property both suffered the losses. The bodies were brought to the hospitals even after hours of deaths because of unavailability of transportation and most of the wounded succumbed to their injuries on the spot without any remedy. Hospital sources said that people took the bodies and injured to the hospitals in their personal vehicles and some of the bodies were rushed to the hospital by police. Similarly, fire tenders completely suspended the operation and property of millions of rupees was gutted. In an incident, shops and houses were blazing at Orangi and fire brigade department declined to take a part in the operation. In the worst law and order situation, suspension of services of welfare organisations and fire brigade department increased losses of lives and property.
