LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has asserted that the PML-N government is efficiently fulfilling the mission of public welfare through a number of development projects, being completed speedily and transparently in the province.
Counting the feats of his government, Shahbaz Sharif said that a mega project had been started for providing clean drinking water to the people of Punjab. “In the first phase, more than 300 water filtration plants are being installed in four cities,” he said and added that the target had been fixed for providing potable water to most of the cities of Punjab by 2017.
He was presiding over a high level meeting here on Saturday, in which progress on public welfare programmes and ongoing development projects was reviewed in detail. Members of National and Provincial Assemblies attended the meeting. The chief minister said that the work on the development projects was continued throughout the province for providing relief to the people.
“Billions of rupees have been allocated for the repair and construction of roads in rural areas under Khadim-e-Punjab Green Roads Programme,” he informed the meeting. He added that rural economy would progress speedily and new job opportunities would also be created through implementation of Khadim-e-Punjab Green Roads Programme.
He further said that the journey of service to the people would continue with new spirit and hard work. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, this country and this nation will be brought out of problems and put on the road to progress and prosperity,” he promised the participants of the meeting.
In another meeting on Saturday, the chief minister reviewed steps taken for ensuring price cuts for vegetable oil and ghee. Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin, MPA Rana Sanaullah, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretaries of Industry, Agriculture, Livestock, Food, Commissioner Lahore Division, District Coordination Officer Lahore and concerned officials attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that no one could be allowed to exploit the people under the garb of profiteering. He said that people would not be made hostage by a handful profiteers.
“Providing relief to the people is responsibility of the government and all necessary steps will be taken in this regard,” he stated.
