MANDI BAHAUDDIN
A meeting of the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society (PESS) stressed a need for improvement in its organizational structure.
Major General (r) Haroon Pasha, talking to media persons at Malakwal on his return from the meeting held at Rawalpindi, said the meeting held in Chief Organizer Farooq Mirza in the chair.
The National Council members from Attock, Jhelum, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Khushab, Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin including Lt Gen (r) Faiz Ali Chishti, Brig (r) Mansoor, Col (r) Javed, Col (r) Pervaiz, JCOs and NCOs attended the meeting. He said the meeting observed that after death of PESS former president Hamid Gul a vacuum was created in the leadership channel.
Thus, the programme for ex-servicemen welfare and strengthening PESS organisation at every level was left halfway. The meeting also pointed out that present President of PESS Lt-Gen (r) Ali Kuli Khan was heading some other NGOs and private enterprises including Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association (PESA). The meeting observed that he had no time for activating PESS to achieve its objectives. Some of the members said there were complaints from soldiers that the PESS was losing its existence and terming it as dead horse. Pasha further told that meeting unanimously resolved to hold a meeting of National Council to find out ways and means to reorganise it and make it an effective welfare organisation. This was call of the hour to carry out policies and agenda given by Gen Hamid Gul, he said. When asked, he said Chief Organizer Farooq Mirza would announce schedule for next meeting of National Council in a few days.
