China military to conduct large-scale relief drops

China's military plans to conduct large-scale air drops Thursday of key relief supplies including 50,000 food packets into earthquake-devastated areas as it ramped up relief efforts, state media said. The air drops will also include 54,000 articles of clothing, 25,000 pairs of shoes and 5,000 blankets, Xinhua news agency said. The air drops would be focused on the counties of Beichuan, Wenchuan and other hard-hit areas near the quake epicentre, it said. The report came after the agency said another 90 helicopters and 30,000 troops were being deployed to the earthquake zone.
