Anti-rigging protests soar

Various political parties on Tuesday continued their protests and held rallies against what they called massive rigging in the May 11 election.
PML-N candidate for PB-2, Saher Gul Kilji led a protest rally taken out here against irregularities in the Saturday’s electoral process. The rally was participated by a large number of the party workers who marched on various roads and later, staged a sit-in on Stewart Road.
Addressing on the occasion, the PML-N leaders alleged the electoral process on Momanabad and Naseerabad polling stations continued till late at night under the supervision of Frontier Corps which was a sheer violation of rule and regulations. They demanded the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan and Provincial Election Commissioner for taking notice of what they called an illegal act.
Later, the PML-N workers ended their sit-in and dispersed peacefully.
Separately, hundreds of Hazara Democratic Party activities gathered outside the Press Club here, protesting against the alleged rigging and delay in announcing the polls results of PB-6.
HDP leaders Sardar Sahil Hazara, Raza Wakeel Advocate and others alleged that their party was leading on the seat, but the results were skewed declaring a religious political party as winner.
They said HDP candidate Ahmed Ali Kazad was leading on PB-IV, but dramatically the results were stopped without any justification. “We’ll not accept such tactics and the authorities concerned should take notice of the rigging,” they added.
Likewise, the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat and Muttahida Mahaz also levelled allegations of rigging, demanding re-polling in NA-259 constituency.
A complete shutter down strike was also observed in Dera Murad Jamali and Nushki against the alleged rigging in PB-28 and PB-40 constituency. PPP leader Mir Sadiq Umrani and independent candidate Ghulam Dastagir Badini demanded the ECP to take notice of the rigging and ensure re-polling in the constituencies.
On the other hand, BNP-M candidate for NA-260, Agha Hassan Advocate regretted the poll result of his seat has not been announced even after lapse of 70 hours. Addressing a news conference here, he said the uncalled for delay is creating ambiguities as far as transparency of the electoral process is concerned.
Separately, PPP candidate for NA-259, Mir Maqbool Lehri also demanded the ECP for early announcement of the election results. He said the delay in this connection is creating uncertainty; thus the official results should be announced at the earliest.
Moreover, former federal minister Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind alleged that all previous records of rigging were broken on NA- 267 Kachi cum Jhal Magsi and PB-30 Kachi constituencies. He further said the ECP and local administration played their part to rig the electoral process on May11.
