RAWALPINDI -The Food Department Rawalpindi and police while conducting raids in various parts of district have foiled a bid to smuggle wheat and flour besides seizing 2440 bags of the commodity, informed a police spokesman on Wednesday. According to him, the police also arrested four drivers and impounded four trucks. Separate cases have also been registered against the drivers while further investigation was on, he added.  He said that the authorities of the Food Department along with Naseerabad police confiscated a truckload (2440 bags) of wheat, flour and fine wheat flour. Three drivers were held by the police on the spot, he said. The detained drivers have been identified as Ahsan Ullah, Rizwan and Umar, he added.

Similarly, the teams of Food Department along with police came into action in areas of Saddar Wah and foiled a wheat smuggling bid by arresting a truck driver namely Taimoor. The police recovered 640 wheat bags from the possession of the truck driver against whom a case has also been registered.  The authorities concerned had been directed to strictly monitor district exit points to control wheat smuggling, he said adding, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi Tahir Farooq had instructed the authorities to strictly monitor the movement of wheat and take strict action in accordance with the law against the rules violators.
