Growers urged to use approved cotton varieties

LAHORE  - The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised cotton growers to use approved BT and hybrid varieties for better yield of the crop.
A spokesman of the department said on Sunday that other approved varieties except BT and hybrid including CIM 573, SLH 317, BH 167, Nijbi 115, FH 942, Nayyab 852, CIM 496, CIM 554, CIM 506, MNH 786, Alsimi H 151 and CRS 38 should be used.
He said that farmers should complete cotton sowing in central areas like Multan, Khanewal, Vehari, Bhawalnagar, Lodhran, DG Khan, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, Layyah and RY Khan till May 31.
In Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Chiniot, Okara, Pakpattan, Narowal, Kasur, Attock, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sheikupura, Nankana Sahib, Lahore, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, it should be sown till May 15.
He asked the growers to carry out pest scouting to keep the crop safe from insect attack and diseases.
