Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed profound grief over the widespread devastation caused by recent floods in Pakistan, extending condolences to the government, people, and bereaved families. He also offered Tehran’s full cooperation in rescue and relief operations.
The Embassy of Iran in Islamabad confirmed Iran’s readiness to provide all possible assistance during the crisis.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), at least 330 people have lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with Buner district suffering the heaviest losses — 204 deaths reported in the past 48 hours alone. Authorities also noted that 50 people remain missing and more than 120 have been injured.
The floods, triggered by torrential rains and cloudbursts, swept away homes and infrastructure. Among the victims were five crew members of a provincial government helicopter that crashed in Mohmand during a relief mission.
The calamity has extended beyond Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with Gilgit-Baltistan reporting 12 deaths and Azad Jammu and Kashmir at least nine fatalities. Other districts affected include Shangla (36 deaths), Mansehra (23), Swat (22), Bajaur (21), Battagram (15), Lower Dir (5), and Abbottabad (1 child).
Widespread destruction of infrastructure has also been reported. At least 11 houses were destroyed, 63 partially damaged, and several schools in Swat and Shangla sustained flood damage.
Officials cautioned that the death toll is likely to rise further as rescue operations continue in remote areas cut off by collapsed bridges and washed-out roads.
