LAHORE  -  Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting on Friday to review the progress on clean drinking water projects, water filtration plants, and other major development projects in the province.

The meeting also reviewed updates on the Model Village project, the Lahore Development Project, and the Punjab Development Project. In the course of the meeting, the issue of installing water treatment plants in the remote areas was thoroughly debated. The chief minister gave a strict deadline of June 30, 2026, for their installation, underlining the importance of creating a regular system to construct, repair, and maintain them. She underlined the urgency to prioritize addressing the public grievances related to the unavailability of drinking water.

Maryam Nawaz oversaw the timely completion of street construction and repair under the Lahore Development Project and showed displeasure over delays in some schemes. She also reviewed progress on 122 beautification schemes being undertaken in all divisions of Punjab, including 51 schemes in Lahore, 64 in Rawalpindi, 37 in Faisalabad, 75 in Multan, 45 in Sargodha, 64 in Gujranwala, 51 in Dera Ghazi Khan, 61 in Bahawalpur, 53 in Gujrat, and 49 in Sahiwal. The chief minister ordered officials to complete all beautification projects in time, reiterating that both quality and timeliness should be ensured before commencing development projects.

CM Maryam leaves for Japan for first official visit as Punjab CM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has left for a five-day official visit to Japan on a special invitation of the Japanese government. Senior officers bid farewell to the chief minister at Lahore Airport on Friday. The delegation also comprises Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bokhari, Provincial Ministers Malik Sohaib Bherth and Zeeshan Rafique, Special Assistant to the CM Sania Ashiq, and other high-ranking government officials.

Maryam is the first woman chief minister to make an official visit to Japan. Her schedule involves visits to Tokyo, Osaka, and Yokohama, where she will attend the World Expo in Osaka, have meetings with high-ranking Japanese government authorities, and visit institutions. At the beginning of her foreign trip, the chief minister landed in Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand. She was warmly welcomed by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Thailand Rukhsana Afzal and senior Thai government officials who also greeted her and the Punjab government delegation.
