The Local Government Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has established a special control room at the Directorate General to monitor the ongoing floods and emergency developments caused by heavy rains across the province.
According to an official notification, designated staff have been assigned round-the-clock duties to ensure continuous supervision of rainfall and flood conditions. All field offices have been directed to maintain close coordination with the control room in case of emergencies, enabling swift response and improved relief operations.
Officials said the step has been taken to strengthen monitoring and ensure better coordination as floods continue to disrupt life across KP.
The move comes a day after the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that cloudbursts and flash floods over the past 24 hours had claimed 229 lives and injured 40 people in the province. The fatalities included 184 men, 14 women, and 12 children, while the injured comprised 17 men, three women, and one child.
District-wise, Buner recorded the highest number of deaths with 91, followed by Shangla (35), Mansehra (23), Bajaur (21), Swat (20), Battagram (15), and Lower Dir (5). The PDMA also confirmed damage to 68 houses, including 21 partially destroyed and seven completely demolished. Bajaur and Battagram were identified among the worst-hit districts.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to maintain close coordination with the KP government and utilise all available resources for rescue and relief efforts. Chairing a meeting on the national flood situation, he ordered urgent dispatch of food supplies and medicines to the affected areas and stressed the need for all-out relief measures.
